Actor reportedly leaks 'Watch Dogs 2' new character on social media

It appears like the upcoming sequel to 2014's "Watch Dogs" from Ubisoft could include a new lead character. A post on social media reportedly leaked this information last month.

The new lead character for Ubisoft's series was apparently revealed through an Instagram photo back posted by actor Cort King on April 7. The actor who claimed he had just finished portraying the protagonist.

"Had a blast doing motion capture work as the lead character in a new video game series!", the actor captioned the photo, following up with the hashtag "#WatchDogs2."

The image seemed to show a 3D model of a new character. The character wore a baseball cap, glasses, and a bandana covering his mouth. He had a gun, a messenger bag, and a smartphone, which "Watch Dogs" fans and followers know is essential in the game. In the original game, protagonist Aiden Pearce used a smartphone to hack the world around him. GameSpot questions the photo's legitimacy as the image looks like a work-in-progress and so might not be the final version of the character that will be included in the game, if ever.

The photo existed in the social media for some time until NerdLeaks spotted it. The actor has since set his account profile to private after his post created too much buzz and perhaps with a bit of a nudge from Ubisoft's lawyers, suggests Eurogamer.

The post and the LA-based motion capture actor's account has already been set to private. However, those interested in viewing the post for themselves can check Nerdleaks for a cached version of his Instagram page.

Ubisoft has not commented on the issue yet. The company will report its year-end financial results on May 12, where it might share more information about the game though that's not assured. The company previously said that "Watch Dogs 2" was already in development and that it plans on releasing the game in early 2017. It is expected that more details will be shared at E3.
