Actresses Slam Seth McFarlane for 'Cruel, Cheap' Jokes During Oscars

Hollywood actresses have come out against Seth McFarlane's hosting of the 2013 Oscars. Legendary actresses Jamie Lee Curtis and Geena Davis are but two women who have complained that McFarlane's jokes were "cruel, cheap" and misogynistic.

"I was offended last week," Curtis wrote in a piece for the Huffington Post. "As an Academy member, as the child of former Academy members and as a woman, I expected more from the best that the movie business has to offer. The Oscars are about honoring art and artists. It is not supposed to be a cheesy vaudeville show."

"It's a shame that that triumph was enveloped in an awards ceremony containing disrespect for women. But it helps illustrate how tone-deaf we can still be regarding the status of women," icon Geena Davis told the California Assembly during a ceremony in Sacramento.

"Every girl in California should be able to pursue a dream that's as natural to her as breathing. We need to support them to make sure they have the messages and the tools to get there," Davis added.

She has been working hard on the State Commission on the Status of Women and Girls and presented before Congress. The actress has also founded a nonprofit that supports gender equality in the media.

"I was offended by the Oscar show," Curtis continued. "I am sorry that this is what we are talking about and not 'Argo's' lovely win or Jennifer's amazing performance or Daniel's eloquence and humor and grace or the fallout from the sequester."

"What we will be talking about is Seth's lack of class and a 14-year-old boy's derogatory word for one of the most beautiful, motherly, and literally nurturing parts of the female form," she concluded.

McFarlane has already said he will not host next year's award ceremony.
