Adam Sandler Breaks Razzie Record with 11 Nominations

Adam Sandler was nominated for a record breaking 11 Razzie Awards for the worst movies, acting, producing, and screenwriting in 2011.

Adam Sandler, the comedian and star of hit films like "The Wedding Singer" and "Big Daddy," did some of his worst work ever in 2011, according to the Razzie Award committee. The funnyman's three movies last year - "Just Go With It," "Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star," and "Jack and Jill" - earned him 11 nominations, which breaks Eddie Murphy's previous 2007 record of five for "Norbit."

Most of the dishonorable nominations are for "Jack and Jill," in which Sandler plays both an advertising executive and his sister who visits for Thanksgiving.

Sandler was nominated for Worst Picture for "Bucky Larson" and "Jack and Jill," Worst Actor for "Jack and Jill" and "Just Go With It," Worst Actress for "Jack and Jill," Worst Screen Ensemble for "Jack and Jill," Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel for "Bucky Larson" and "Jack and Jill," Worst On-Screen Couple for "Just Go With It" (with Jennifer Aniston) and "Jack and Jill" (with Katie Holmes, Adam Sandler or Al Pacino), and Worst Screenplay for "Bucky Larson" and "Jack and Jill."

While "Jack and Jill" by itself has the most nominations with 12, a close runner-up is "Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," which landed eight nominations for its portrayal of a vampire-human birth, among other things.

"It's almost karmic for someone to have made that much razz-able stuff in one year," Razzies founder John Wilson told The Associated Press. "He has angered someone really powerful, I would say."

The announcement of Sandler's Razzie nominations came Saturday, on the eve of the Oscar's. Traditionally, they would announce the winners Monday, the day after the awards, but this year, they decided to experiment with their ridicule, and push the date a little more than a month back to April Fools' Day.

"I have always wondered if we stepped slightly away from lockstep with the Oscars, what would happen," said Wilson. "We just kept hoping the Oscars would do their ceremony on April 2, but they just never did."

Sandler set a record for the number of Razzies he was nominated for in 2011, but it certainly isn't the first time he's been nominated. Many of his comedy movies, like "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry," "Mr. Deeds," "Little Nicky," "The Waterboy," and "Happy Gilmore" have also gotten the comedian nominated.
