'Agent Carter' Season 2 Cast News, Update: 'That 70's Show' Star Kurtwood Smith Joins Show As Vernon Masters
The second season of ABC's hit crime-fighting drama TV series "Marvel's Agent Carter" is signing "That 70's Show" star, Kurtwood Smith, for a recurring role.
Citing the casting update from TVLine.com, Smith is portraying the character named Vernon Masters who is described as "a veteran of the War Department with a keen understanding of how to work the system."
Taking the hints from the words of the show's executive producers Tara Butters, Chris Dingess, and Michele Fazekas, it was found that as soon as they were developing the aforementioned character, the writers were already having the "Resurrection" and "Chaos" actor in consideration for the role.

"We just never thought we could actually get him. Thankfully, we were wrong," the EPs revealed to Marvel.com in an interview.
The 72-year-old's character wasn't mentioned in Marvel comics. However, ScreenRant.com speculates that it could be possible that Vernon was inspired from a different character found in the source material and that it was tailored to best fit the TV show adaptation.
The Progressive Artists Agency-repped actor will join other newcomers for Season 2 like Lotte Verbeek who has signed on to portray Jarvis' (James D'Arcy) wife, Ana. The "Outlander" star was described in an earlier casting report by TVLine as a "free-spirited" woman who immediately gets close to the titular character (Hayley Atwell). She will help Peggy adjust to her new life in Los Angeles.
For those who missed it, Season 2 will be ditching the New York setting for Hollywood which Butters earlier described as both "glamorous "and "gritty."
Fans will find Peggy still connected and working for the Strategic Scientific Reserve. One of the reasons that brought the agent down to LA concerned a case which the LAPD couldn't seem to handle and would need the expertise of the likes of Agent Carter.
The sophomore season of the series is slated to premiere early in 2016 only on ABC.
