'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' News, Update: Series to Enter Its Darkest Storyline Yet; EP Hints at Fate of Daisy LMDs

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is set to enter its darkest storyline yet.

In last week's episode, Daisy (Chloe Bennett) and Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) were the only humans left in S.H.I.E.L.D. after the other members of the group had been replaced by their Life Model Decoy (LMD) counterparts. In their quest to save their fellow agents, the two decided to enter the alternate reality in Dr. Radcliffe's Framework.

In the twisted reality of the Framework, Daisy is still going out with Ward (Brett Dalton), Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) is a billionaire with a mystery woman, and Simmons is dead. Most surprising of all is May (Ming Na Wen) is part of HYDRA and bears the symbol of the sinister organization.

The ominous presence of HYDRA will carry the show into its next batch of episodes. A new artwork for the upcoming episodes reveals that the series is set to enter a "new world order." In the poster, the agents seem to be their normal selves. However, spotted in the background is the glowing tentacle skull of HYDRA.

Last January, Bennett joined "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." executive producer Leanne Aguilera for a Facebook Live chat, where she revealed that the last few episodes of the fourth season will "blow people's minds."

"For the fans that have been watching from day one, you're going to get a lot out of the back half of the season. The third pod really is a mind-bender. It's going to throw people for a loop. It's really insane," she teased.

The actress also teased that everything fans know about the show will suddenly turn upside down in the final episodes. "It's a really fun way to mix up the show," she said.

Meanwhile, executive producer Jed Whedon recently talked about the fate of the Daisy LMDs when the series returns. According to him, either May totally wiped out hangar and all the LMDs in there, or some LMDs were left and are causing all the havoc while the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents remain in the alternate reality in the Framework. "The idea was May sacrifices herself to try to put an end to what they're doing," he said.

"Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns on Tuesday, April 4, at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
