'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' Season 5 Spoilers: Coulson Welcomes Back Disavowed Agent

A disavowed agent will be rejoining the group in the upcoming season of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

According to Entertainment Weekly, Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) will be back to reunite with his former squad in the new installment. It remains unclear as to how many episodes will Blood appear in since the showrunners are keeping the details under wraps.

Viewers know his character as the mercenary-turned-agent who was disavowed by S.H.I.E.L.D. when he and his wife decided to quit. Blood and Adrianne Palicki, who played Bobbi Morse, left to star in their own show titled "Most Wanted" but the spinoff did not push through.

Coulson (Clark Gregg) can definitely use new muscles to steer S.H.I.E.L.D. back on track after falling victim to AIDA's (Mallory Jansen) power. It has been teased that the team will struggle to get back to work as the Framework's effect continues to haunt them. Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), in particular, is rumored to still be retaining the evilness that the Life Model Decoy gave him while in the alternate world. Spoilers indicate that he may end up hurting his friends again. Fitz will also have difficulty convincing the others, especially Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), that he does not mean them any harm.

Fans of the couple will be disappointed to learn that their relationship will continue to be on the rocks in season 5. It will definitely take a while for Simmons to forget the bad things Fitz did while in AIDA's control. He will also deal with his own guilt after realizing the damage he caused. Although they will be back working side-by-side in S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters soon enough, their dynamics will drastically change.

Showrunner Jed Whedon even hinted to IGN that it might be the end for the pair.

"I think it's safe to say from these past two episodes that they love each other and won't love anyone else, but that doesn't mean that they'll be able to repair their relationship and all that pain in between. One would hope that they could because everybody roots for FitzSimmons and the fans do and we do. We love the two actors, and so I think that seeing them together is a reward that the audience deserves, but how that happens, we'll have to wait and see if it does," the EP said.

Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 5 will air midseason 2018.
