Alaska: Recently Elected Mayor Found Dead Inside His Home

Stephen "Greg" Fisk has recently been elected as Mayor of Juneau, Alaska's capital, defeating incumbent Marrill Sanford, but on Monday, his son found him lifeless inside their home.

Multiple outlets have taken the news, and while there have been a lot of rumors revolving around the possible cause of death, police are still investigating and have not come to a conclusion.

According to CNN, the most popular speculation that surfaced is that of the Mayor getting assaulted, which resulted to his death. However, Juneau police clarified that without the autopsy report, which is scheduled for Wednesday, they can't provide any answers to Fisk's family and supporters yet.

BBC reports that Fisk's friends have expressed angst and grief over the Mayor's passing. Bob King, Fisk's campaign chairman, said his late friend's "potential to be snuffed out is just a crushing loss."

Juneau Police Chief Bryce Johnson told CNN affiliate KTUU that officers who responded to the scene didn't find a gunshot wound or any evidence that could point to a possible drug overdose. "We don't know a cause of death," he said.

It should also be noted that police didn't find any evidence purporting that the late Mayor could have committed suicide, which makes the case more of a mystery.

Neighbors Don and Janet Kussart, who live very close to the 70-year-old's house, told the Juneau Empire that Fisk's son started shouting when he found his father dead on the floor. The couple said, though, that since they live close enough to hear any signs of assault, they should have heard if somebody tried to break in.

The outlet describes the Mayor as one who seeks to "diversify the economy," and while Deputy Mayor Mary Becker has been tasked to take over for now, the Alaskan capital will remain clouded with Fisk's mystery until the reason for his death is revealed.
