'Alien 5' Movie Latest News: Neill Blomkamp of 'District 9' to Direct Sequel
The fifth "Alien" movie will soon be in production after "District 9" director, Neill Blomkamp confirmed the news on Instagram.
Fans of the Ellen Ripley "Alien" franchise will be gratified to learn that rumors have been confirmed: 20th Century Fox has closed a deal with South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp to direct "Alien 5," Blomkamp himself confirmed on his Instagram account.
The "Elysium" director posted an image of concept art depicting the creature from the "Alien" movies complete with full-toothed projectile tongue, and confirmed the project has been greenlighted to proceed.

"Um…So I think it's officially my next film #alien," Blomkamp posted on his social media feed.
"Alien 5" is Blomkamp's first exploration of Ridley Scott's highly popular and iconic sci-fi franchise, and Screen Rant has recalled original actress Sigourney Weaver, who played Ellen Ripley in all the "Alien" movies, having expressed her willingness to come aboard a new "Alien" sequel.
Ridley Scott will be producing the fifth installment via his production outfit, Scott Free. However, with the film still at its initial stages, no official title or word of the plot has yet been released.
Blomkamp posted a couple of "Alien" concept art last month featuring Ellen Ripley wearing a suicide vest studded with explosives, and another one of her wearing an alien-inspired suit.
Reports have been circulating, however, that the movie will center around Ripley's clone traveling to the Alien's homeworld to wreck havoc there.
According to leaks released by production insiders, "Alien 5" will be set in the years following the events of "Prometheus 2," which is expected to be released in theaters in 2016, with Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace reprising their roles from the first movie.
No date has yet been set for the release of "Alien's" fifth installment, however, speculations have pegged it at late 2016 or early 2017.
