Amal Alamuddin Engagement Ring (PHOTO): George Clooney's Fiancee Debuts Emerald-Cut Diamond Ring

Amal Alamuddin, the fiancee of George Clooney, recently debuted her large engagement ring amid reports claiming she rejected the Hollywood actor three times before finally agreeing to date him.

The British lawyer, 36, recently got engaged to the seemingly eternal bachelor, 52, and last week she debuted her large engagement ring which he helped design. The sparkler features an emerald-cut diamond estimated at 7-plus carats and two tapered baguettes set in platinum, according to People magazine which shared a photo of the ring.

While the newly engaged pair are said to be very in love, a new report claims that Alamuddin initially had no interest in Clooney.

The couple are said to have met in September at a charity fundraiser where the Hollywood star was instantly smitten.

"George immediately honed in on Amal and was formally introduced to her. He had no idea she was such an accomplished lawyer!" a source told Radar Online.

"She was engaging in the conversation after the introduction was made, and then did the unthinkable … Amal walked away from the group George was with! He was instantly more intrigued by her," the insider revealed. "George then inserted himself into another group Amal was talking with. She just wasn't impressed by the Hollywood actor persona."

Clooney, who was once married to actress Talia Balsam, reportedly then requested her phone number and while she refused to give it to the actor, he somehow managed to obtain it.

"George asked for her phone number at the end of the night, and she refused to give it to him! Again, another first," the source said, adding that despite the rejection he called her the following day.

"She turned him down! He was absolutely shocked. No one turns George down for a date. Amal had no interest in dating an actor, but George was eventually able to convince her to go out with him to discuss his humanitarian work," the source revealed.

Clooney, a successful actor and film producer, has been at the forefront of advocacy for resolving the war in Darfur. Alamuddin, who was born in Beirut and raised in England, also has a philanthropic background. She is currently representing Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and is an adviser to Kofi Annan, the special envoy to Syria.

"After their first date, Amal was extremely impressed with George's work in Darfur, and realized that he was much more than an actor," the source said.

The couple celebrated their recent engagement with friends in Los Angeles last week with close friends and Clooney's parents expressed their delight.

"You can say I'm extremely happy, Amal's a lovely girl. I like her very much," Clooney's Mom Nina said of her future daughter-in-law, who she described as being a good mix of "brains and beauty."
