Amanda Knox Case: Italian Court Gives Reason for Retrial

The Amanda Knox case will be retried in Italian court, and the court recently gave its reason for the decision. Knox recently reunited with ex-boyfriend and co-defendant Raffaele Sollecito in New York City.

Italy's supreme court stated that the jury did not hear all of the evidence it needed to in order to render an acceptable verdict in Knox's case. The court also stated that there were discrepancies in testimony that needed to be answered for, though it did not say which testimony or who may be recalled to the stand.

Knox and Sollecito were acquitted on appeals for the murder of Meredith Kercher, Knox's roommate. Kercher's family is pleased with the court's decision to retry Knox and Sollecito for the murder of their daughter, but Knox's family has been very vocal in calling for their daughter to remain in the United States and fight to prove her innocence.

The court reasoned that the theory in which Kercher died during an intimate experience with Knox and Sollecito was valid and needed to be heard by jurors. It was the original argument presented by the prosecution but was seemingly dismissed and ignored by the court, which has not said why it would now reconsider the theory.

Knox and Sollecito met in New York City earlier this week, fueling speculation that they were back together. However, a family friend said that the two are only "good friends" who just happened to be in the same city at the same time.

"Raffaele and Amanda are two good friends… Amanda was on 'The View' on Monday, and I don't know what Raffaele was doing there. But obviously they're good friends and they've been through a lot together. They correspond," David Marriott, a friend of the Knox family and their spokesman, told Radar Online.

"It's painful the court has decided to open the case back up again. But she'll move forward, as she has always done," Marriott said of Knox.
