Amanda Knox Murder Trial Latest Update: PR Team Helping Knox Turn Public Sentiment

It has been almost seven years since British student Meredith Kercher was murdered in her bedroom in Perugia. Among those who were arrested for the murder are her roommate Amanda Knox and her boyfriend Raffaelle Sollecito. Then, three days after Knox was arrested, her father, Curt Knox, hired publicist David Marriott of Gogerty Marriott Public Relations Inc.

Amanda has often been portrayed in a negative light by the European press. She was accused of being promiscuous, a sexual deviant, and a drug addict.

In an article by Selene Nelson of the Huffington Post, it is said that the public relations team appears to have done a good job as support for Knox in the U.S. media remains relatively high. Nelson notes that the most-repeated reports in the States boil down to three things: that there is no evidence that Knox has committed the crime that she was accused of; that Knox's false accusation of her employer came only after hours of abuse; and that Rudy Guene confessed to the murder and acted alone.

Nelson observed that it seems as if the U.S. media are deliberately ignoring recent developments in the case.

In July, it was reported that Knox had a connection to a Perugian cocaine ring, and that apparently Knox contacted one of the dealers that she was allegedly having a sexual relationship with days before and after Kercher's murder.

"In the face of recent and important case developments, much of the U.S. media remains curiously silent … In a case where sex and drug use are so contentious, one might imagine this was noteworthy, but the mainstream media in the U.S. were silent," Nelson wrote.
