Amazon, Best Buy Expand Online Voice-Activated Shopping Options for Consumers
Amazon and Best Buy have recently announced their partnership that will provide their customers with more options for voice-activated online shopping.
In the past year, Amazon has not only been known for leading the online commerce industry. The company also ventured into developing its own smart assistant named Alexa, which it embedded into the home speakers it produced.
While these home devices were good for various daily tasks such as playing music or videos, calling contacts, reading text messages or the news of the day, and switching appliances on and off, its highlight was it brought voice-activated online shopping to its users.
And now, Amazon has expanded the array of products and deals that Amazon Alexa users can find in the comfort of their homes as it closed a deal with one of America's largest retailers, Best Buy.
In a press release, Best Buy explained: "Best Buy customers can learn about and order Best Buy's Deal of the Day products on an Amazon Alexa device. Shoppers can also buy from a tailored list of recommendations that is based on their needs and taken from Best Buy's full assortment of laptops and TVs."
Best Buy and Amazon have obviously picked the right time to launch their partnership now that the holiday market is approaching. Added to that, Best Buy also recognized that "voice technology is one of the most exciting new tech trends," which explains the team-up between the two.
To enjoy the services, Amazon Echo owners must first install the Alexa Skill "Best Buy" that is available for free on Amazon's website. Once it is downloaded, customers can use commands like "Alexa, talk to Best Buy," "Alexa, ask Best Buy about the Deal of the Day," and "Alexa, ask Best Buy to research products" to start the program.
It is also important to note that using the service will require an account on the Best Buy platform.
Meanwhile, Best Buy mentioned they were also partnering up with Google to bring voice-activated shopping to Google Home users as well.
