Amazon Hiring Workers: Company Promises 30 Percent Higher Salaries Plus Benefits

Amazon announced Monday plans to hire at least 7,000 new workers in positions that will pay well above the average rate.

The Internet company said that it would create 5,000 full time warehouse jobs, which will pay 30 percent more than a traditional retail position. Future employees will also receive better benefits, the company promised. Those benefits include stock grants and 95 percent tuition reimbursement for college students, regardless of the topic they choose to study.

"We're hiring more than 5,000 people to join our team and help us continue to innovate and serve our customers," said Dave Clark, vice president of worldwide operations and customer service at Amazon, in a press release. "We're focused on sustained innovation across Amazon and want to help our employees succeed-whether at Amazon or elsewhere-so we offer programs like Career Choice, where we'll pay for up to 95 percent of eligible employees' tuition regardless of whether the skills they learn are relevant to a career at Amazon."

The jobs will be available in new fulfillment centers that Amazon has opened across the country. Over the last year, Amazon has opened eight of these new centers. New positions will be available however in 16 different cities throughout the United States.

"The more than 5,000 jobs now available across the fulfillment network include picking, packing and shipping customer orders while engaging with high-end, state of the art technology," the company said. "The jobs offer competitive pay, a comprehensive benefits package, company stock awards and bonuses."

In addition to paying 30 percent above the standard retail position, over the past five years the stock grant option has added an additional 9 percent on average to employees' salaries' the company noted.

Fulfillment centers are located in: Breinigsville, Pa., Middletown, Del., Chattanooga and Murfreesboro, Tenn., Charleston and Spartanburg, S.C., Patterson, San Bernadino and Tracy, Calif., Chester, Va., Coppell, Haslet and San Antonio, Texas, Hebron, Ky., Indianapolis and Jeffersonville, Ind. and Phoenix.
