Amazon Kindle Books: New Library for Kindle and Kindle Fire Offers Free eBook Each Month

Amazon has released a digital book service for Kindle Fire tablet owners.

It was announced Thursday that Amazon would allow its Prime service subscribers to borrow up to one complimentary eBook a month. Amazon Prime currently costs $79 annually.

Users can borrow an eBook for as long as they want; however, when they borrow a new title, the previously borrowed book automatically disappears from their device. The new program, called Kindle Owners' Lending Library, is an exclusive application to the Kindle Fire. Owners of other tablets, including Apple's iPad 2, will not have access to Amazon's new content services.

Kindle books can still be read on both tablets, though. This app’s exclusivity may persuade some to invest in the Kindle Fire.

More than 5,000 titles will be offered to users from the start. This includes more than 100 current and former national bestsellers, such as Stephen R. Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People."

Amazon's new Kindle Fire tablet will come with a full color, 7-inch multi-touch display. Over 16 million colors display on the device.

A dual-core processor powers the device and it allows for instant web surfing through Amazon Silk. The 8 GB hard drive space is contained on the tablet, and free cloud storage is available to users who have all types of media content they wish to store.

Amazon Prime offers users of the device and club members unlimited, instant streaming of over 10,000 popular movies and TV shows. Several thousand Android applications are readily available upon launch.

The Chicago Sun Times gave a positive review of the Kindle Fire: "The Fire is the real deal and it’s going to disrupt the equilibrium of the existing market for media devices."

Seeking Alpha said, "There’s a new mayor in Droidville. But this guy didn’t roll into town with pomp and circumstance. He strolled down Main Street and simply offered more than any other candidate, extolling a plan based on down-to-earth sensibility and affordability. Meet the Kindle Fire."

Amazon's upgraded Kindle Fire will be available for $199 on Nov. 15.
