Amazon Kindle News: Feature-Packed Software Update Coming To Kindle E-Readers This Month

This month, Amazon will be releasing a new software update that will make it easier for Kindle owners to share, browse, and buy books from their devices. According to Amazon's announcement, the free, over-the-air update will include a personalized Home screen, easy access to popular settings, book recommendations, and a sharing feature that allows Kindle owners to share their favorite books or quotes with family and friends via social media.

Kindle owners will be able to tap on My Library to view all of their e-books and tap on the upper left side of the Home screen to see the most recently-opened e-books. Tapping on Downloaded will allow users to view all their downloaded e-books while tapping on All will let them see all the e-books they have, even the ones in the Cloud.

A new Home screen section called My Reading List will show a list of books in the user's Amazon Wish List, as well as samples downloaded. Those with Goodreads accounts will also find the books on their Goodreads Want to Read shelf there.

Popular settings, such as device sync and airplane mode, will be grouped together and can be accessed with one tap of the toolbar.

Kindle e-readers will also be able to give personalized book recommendations. Users only have to indicate their favorite genres and rate several books in that genre, and Amazon will generate a list of recommendations. Users can then buy, browse, or add books from the list to their Goodreads shelves.

According to CNET, the update will be made available to the 2014 standard Kindle, the Kindle Voyage, and the 2013 and 2015 models of the Kindle Paperwhite. Amazon says that the update, which will be released later this month, will not affect the e-books that are already on users' libraries and devices. Kindle users don't need to lift a finger to get the update - it will be automatically downloaded and installed.
