AMD Ryzen News: Upcoming CPU to Support Windows 7? Pre-Order Listing Hints at Release Date

Tech experts could not stop talking about the upcoming processors of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), which is set to be released next month. AMD Ryzen's hype was heightened even further when news emerged that it can support Windows 7.

AMD Ryzen central processing units (CPUs) are heavily speculated due to the fact that no significant details of its specs have been released. The company recently revealed that they are developing several drivers that will add Ryzen to the personal computers (PCs) running on Windows 7 operating system (OS), according to Hot Hardware.

Microsoft, apparently, has not developed its own drivers for Windows 7 and so AMD has stepped in to make it happen. However, there is no news on whether AMD Ryzen will support the OS entirely or only a few of its functionalities. Nevertheless, the news about it made the Windows 7 users happy, considering that the OS is already old.

Currently, the most recent Windows OS is the Windows 10, which has a market share of 27.72 percent of operating systems in use globally. Windows 7, however, still is the most used type with 40.06 percent of users, according to the data released by StatCounter.

AMD's move is different from that of its rival company, Intel, which is set to release Kaby Lake for Windows 10 without any support for Windows 7. However, this does not mean that Kaby Lake will not be compatible with older operating systems, wrote Hot Hardware in a separate article.

Meanwhile, an alleged pre-order listing of AMD Ryzen indicates that the CPUs are to come out this month. According to AMD Shanghai's Taobao distribution channel, a pre-order offer is already available at $295, as reported by Digital Trends.

The listing, unfortunately, did not specify a model number, but it does present a 4.2 GHz clock speed, which may pertain to the anticipated Ryzen.

AMD Ryzen is built from the company's 14nm Zen microarchitecture, which will be out in octa-core, quad-core and hexa-core variants.
