'American Crime Story': Matthew Broderick Confirmed for Hurricane Katrina Story

FX's Emmy Award-winning anthology series, "American Crime Story," is working on two seasons simultaneously - one about renowned fashion designer Gianni Versace's death, and the other is about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina which hit Louisiana and several other states in 2005.

The upcoming season titled "Katrina: American Crime Story" already has a few confirmed cast members onboard. These include Matthew Broderick ("Ferris Bueller's Day Off"), who was just recently confirmed to play Michael D. Brown, the director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency at the time.

Brown was heavily criticized during the aftermath of the hurricane due to the slow response and disorganized relief efforts for the victims of the calamity, which claimed around 1,836 lives.

Brown also famously resigned as director of FEMA after then president George W. Bush visited a disaster site and told him that he was doing "a heck of a job." Overall, the almost indifferent approach to the victims of the calamity led to a national outrage that ultimately left a bad impression of the Bush administration.

Aside from Broderick, Annette Bening ("The Kids Are All Right") is also confirmed being onboard "Katrina: American Crime Story" as she plays former Louisiana governor Kathleen Bianco.

Several cast members from the previous season titled "The People v. O.J. Simpson," such as Sarah Paulson, Courtney B. Vance and Cuba Gooding Jr., are also expected to play new roles in the upcoming season.

"Katrina: American Crime Story" is expected to premiere by 2018, and fans have high expectations for the drama as "The People v. O.J. Simpson" garnered highly positive reviews.

"It's not a lurid true-crime series. ... We have really high ambitions for this franchise," says FX CEO John Landgraf in a statement.

Despite the seemingly long hiatus, the producers of the show will make up for it in 2018 with an additional "American Crime Story" season - this time about Versace's murder and expected to air in the later part of the year.
