'American Gods' Season 2 News, Air Date: Production to Begin in Early 2018

Fans of "American Gods" may have to wait a while more before the premiere of season 2.

Executive producer Michael Green spoke to TVLine recently and revealed that they are currently writing the second season of the Starz series, with production not slated to commence until early next year.

However, when season 2 does premiere, fans can look forward to the reveal of The House of Rock, the place where Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) is gathering the old gods to fight against the new gods.

In June, Green and fellow executive producer Bryan Fuller spoke to Deadline about the season 1 finale and what fans can expect from the next cycle. They revealed that there will be more character development and a deeper exploration of character relationships. Fuller also teased that they have one particular character relationship that they are looking forward to the most.

"I think the bigger interpersonal dramas that are waiting for us in Season two that excites us greatly is the notion of Laura Moon versus Mr. Wednesday," Fuller said, further explaining that fans will know the character of Laura more in season 2.

"There's so much more to tell and now that we've spent a season introducing the character and providing a couple of new facets that we're allowed to take her in even more unexpected directions," the EP teased.

Apart from revealing that old characters will be getting more screen time, the two EPs also talked about the introduction of new characters. Some of these new characters are from Neil Gaiman's novel, on which the show is based, while others are entirely new ones that Fuller and Green created for the show, like Corbin Bernsen's Vulcan.

Green also warned that season 2 will be "much darker" and "angrier" than before, mostly because of the current state of the world, which may influence their writing.

As for how long "American Gods" will run, Fuller and Green revealed that they have yet to put a number on it.
