American Gods crew treated fans of the novel with a sneak peek of their drama series. A teaser trailer was shown and this revealed a lot about what the series would look and feel like. It also gave fans an idea about how Starz would be able to serialize the 2001 book.

American Gods book

American Gods is all about the battle between old and new gods; old gods were from biblical and mythological roots while new gods were society's new idols namely money, celebrity, media, technology and drugs.

The main character Shadow Moon played by Ricky Whittle is an ex-convict who now works as a body guard for Mr. Wednesday played by Ian McShane. Mr. Wednesday, one of the older gods is on a mission to gather his men to battle with new gods.

Boor readers need not worry

Showrunner Bryan Fuller said that those who have not read the book yet need not worry at all. He said that no matter how viewers came across the series they can be sure that they won't miss anything at all.

But for those who have read the book, stay tuned for surprises. Gaiman said that they have prepared for things that will surely puzzle fans. And even if the show's creators plan on something new, Michael Green, a co-showrunner of Fuller, said that they will stay loyal to the book.

Fuller said that they will be dedicated to the book but will also consider the fact that they need to translate it into television.

Gaiman, who is also an executive producer of the series promised that those who love the book will want to watch the series as well.

 Relatable issues

American Gods the series will deal with relatable issues that Fuller and Green are very particular of. Issues such as women's rights, racial discrimination and gun control are just some of the most popular topics. And along with Gaiman's participation in the television series, he specifically asked producers to make sure that there were no ''white-washing" in the series. The author was referring to the racial makeup of the characters of the show.

American Gods will premier on Starz in 2017.
