It was revealed that Iris is the one who takes care of the children acquired by The Countess. She is aware of all the happenings in the hotel, without The Countess even knowing. With that, Donavan is using her since she also has clear incentive to take The Countess down.

The previous episode showed Donovan saying, "She took that life away from you. Promised you something better then took that away from you, too. I know just how that feels. You want to make her bleed. I want that too cause she did the same thing to me only in my case she never even gave me a choice."

Meanwhile, it has been discussed that the theme of the season has been circulating around the concept of Vampirism. With that, several episodes have touched upon relevant issues such as H.I.V. and AIDS, which had the Countess saying, "We were all vampires. I mourn it still. I think about everything could have been, had they all lived. My friends. Andy. Keith. Robert. All that loss."
