American Horror Story FX Season 4 Spoilers: Ryan Murphy Talks About New Season

After months of anticipation and countless teasers, the new season of "American Horror Story" is set to premiere on October. Season 4, subtitled "Freak Show," will see the return of the show's regular cast, as well as famous actors who will be playing new characters on the show.

"The year is 1952. A troupe of curiosities has just arrived to town, coinciding with the strange emergence of a dark entity that savagely threatens the lives of townsfolk and freaks alike. This is the story of the performers and their desperate journey of survival amidst the dying world of the American carny experience," The "Freak Show" teaser read.

Jessica Lange will be playing the role of Elsa, a German ex-pat who came to America after the war and will serve as the freak show characters' leader and guardian. Kathy Bates will be playing Ethel, who is Elsa's right hand woman. Evan Peters is Jimmy, Ethel's son.

Angela Bassett will play the role of a three-breasted woman, while newcomer to the show Michael Chiklis will be playing her strongman husband. Emma Roberts will be playing a fortuneteller, while Frances Conroy will be playing a society woman who disapproves of the freak show.

The villain, Twisty the Clown, will be played by John Carroll Lynch, while Sarah Paulson will play conjoined twins Dot and Bette.

Stars who are set to make an appearance on the show are Patti La Belle, who will play one of Conroy's friends and who will also be Gabourey Sidibe's mother. Matt Bomer and Lea Michelle will also be on the show. As of the moment, their roles have not been disclosed.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, show creator Ryan Murphy said that the show tells of a time in American culture when different people from different walks of life decide to stand up for their civil rights.

"The [freak show's] performers have put up with centuries of abuse which is all true and are getting to the point where [they're] not going to take it anymore," said Murphy.

The show runner also detailed all the effort that went into season 4.

"We had to build an entire city," said Murphy. "We built an entire huge compound and then we had to build the interiors of all the buildings on set. It's all period."

"American Horror Story: Freak Show" will premiere on FX on Oct. 8 at 10 p.m. on FX.
