'American Horror Story' Season 6 Spoilers: Fan Favorite Angela Basset Set to Return

Actress Angela Basset, who has previously appeared in three seasons of FX's anthology series "American Horror Story," recently confirmed that she will be back for at least one more season of the popular show. The actress is the first confirmed casting for the season 6 roster.

In an interview with TV host Larry King on his show "Larry King Now," the actress said, "I am. Yeah, I signed up after that first year."

Basset played the role of Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau in the third season, subtitled "Coven," and of three-breasted hermaphrodite Desiree Dupree in the fourth season, "Freak Show." The actress also took on the role of vengeful Ramona Royale in the fifth season, "American Horror Story: Hotel," which aired last year.

The 57-year-old "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" actress has been nominated for two Primetime Emmys for her work on "American Horror Story." In 2014, she was up for Outstanding Actress in a Miniseries, Television Movie, or Dramatic Special for her role in "Coven." In 2015, she was nominated in the same category for her work in "Freak Show."

Speaking to King, Basset tried to explain the allure of "American Horror Story" and why it has been so well-received. "I have no idea," the actress said. "I can't, but I can appreciate it."

"With the first one, there was a little history, but there was also a little tongue and cheek, not taking itself too seriously, a little over the top theatricality. I think all those things, all that mix, and then little comments on culture and the times and sexism and racism and ageism. A little of not being afraid to address those issues," she said.

The "Larry King Now" episode in which Angela Basset guested premieres on Wednesday, March 2, at 11 a.m. PST on www.ora.tv/larrykingnow.

The sixth season of "American Horror Story" is expected to air in autumn this year.
