'American Idol' News: Kanye West Made a Cameo During 'Idol' Auditions in Chicago
Tonight will be the last night that the hit reality singing competition "American Idol" will premiere since season 15 will be the final season. To kick off the season, a celebrity will made a cameo, auditioning just like any other contestant with his wife in tow. He did great, as expected, and the judges even gave him a golden ticket at the end of his performance. Kanye West didn't have to take someone else's spotlight this time, apparently.
During his audition, Kanye said to the judges, "My name is Kanye. I'm from the South Side of Chicago. Originally a producer. I always wanted to rap and nobody really believed in me." His wife, Kim Kardashian West, who was still pregnant at the time of the filming, was seen talking at the sideline with the host, Ryan Seacrest, and said she's not really nervous for him since she really believes in Kanye. "I didn't give any advice on singing, rapping...I just really believe in him," she added.
Back on stage, Kanye was telling the judges that he will be singing an original, which is actually his 2005 song "Gold Digger," and even said that one of the judges' name is on it. He rapped, and the judges were wowed with his performance. Watch the full clip here.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the final season's premiere will showcase different talents and will even have contestants from other reality shows like Shelbie Zora and James Panter from "The Voice." Also, "American Idol" will not be what it is now without its heartfelt backstories from the contestants. Fans can't wait to see what else has "Idol" has in store for its last season.
Meanwhile, judge Harry Cormick, Jr. spoke with Entertainment Weekly and teased fans on what will make this season memorable, besides being the last. He said he feels good about the talent this year, and all three of the judges are excited about it. "It's probably the most ready-for-prime-time group that I've seen in three years," Cormick Jr. said. "All you can do is respond to who comes in and auditions, but we're thrilled with this group, I really think it's one of the best yet," he concluded.
