American Idol Proposal, Diana DeGarmo Says 'Yes!' (VIDEO)

"American Idol" viewers were left stunned shortly before Phillip Phillips was announced as the winner of season 11 on Wednesday night after witnessing an unexpected proposal live on stage.

Season 3 runner-up Diana DeGarmo was flabbergasted when her boyfriend Brett Asa "Ace" Young, a season 5 contestant, proposed to her on live television.

The show's host Ryan Seacrest invited the couple, who met while co-starring in the musical "Hair" on Broadway in 2010, on stage and soon the lights were dimmed.

"This has always been home to us and I felt that this would be the perfect place to ask a simple question," Young told DeGarmo.

The 31-year-old traditionally dropped down on a bended knee for his big question.

"We have conquered Broadway together. We have created our new music together. We have an amazing group of people around us. And with the help of David Webb jewelry I have a way to make this last forever. Are you ready?" he asked a tearful DeGarmo.

"I love you to death. You're my best friend. I want to make this last forever and I will do anything in my power to have the most ... amazing life together if you will have me. Diana Nicole DeGarmo, will you marry me?" he added.

An excited DeGarmo did not hesitate to accept the proposal and turned to the cheerful audience to show off her new sparkler.

The ring is said to be an 18-carat yellow gold platinum and diamond piece which features a yellow center stone weighing approximately 1 carat and two side diamonds.

Since her 2004 stint on Idol, the 24-year-old has ventured into musical theatre and even daytime television.

She played Penny Pingleton in the Broadway musical "Hairspray" during 2006, and recently appeared on "The Young and the Restless" as Angelina Veneziano.
