'America's Got Talent' Season 12 Spoilers: Host Nick Cannon to Be Replaced by Tyra Banks

"America's Got Talent" judge Howie Mandel announced on Twitter that Tyra Banks will be taking over as Nick Cannon leaves his post as host of the talent search series.

The former "America's Next Top Model" judge will be hosting the show as Nick Cannon departs "America's Got Talent" after eight years in the role. The supermodel will join the talent search series along with the same judges as the previous season: Simon Cowell, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel. It was Mandel who first broke the news to the public via a Twitter post he made on Sunday, March 12.

A few minutes later, the news was confirmed by the official "America's Got Talent" Twitter account when it posted a tweet welcoming Banks to the AGT family.

Banks will be taking over from former host Cannon, who had been with "America's Got Talent" all the way back from 2009. His leaving was foreshadowed by an earlier Facebook post that was put up last Feb. 13. In the long and arduous post he expressed his feelings over his decision to leave the NBC, and with it his hosting job on "America's Got Talent." The former host alleges that his departure came about as a result of the feedback he has been getting from the network as a result of the backlash from his recent stand-up routine, "Stand Up, Don't Shoot," on Showtime.

Banks has her own hosting experience she can lean on as she takes this new assignment. Aside from her "America's Next Top Model," she was also hosting her own daytime talk show, "Tyra Banks," since 2005 until the program went off the air in 2010, according to TVLine.

Season 12 of "America's Got Talent" is scheduled to begin this month.
