'Amityville Horror' House on Market in Time for Halloween
If you're a fan of Halloween and a bit of historical horror, the house made famous by the film "The Amityville Horror" has just come back on the market. This time, the sellers say, it wasn't demons that led them to part with the home, but divorce.
In 1975, George and Kathleen Lutz purchased the very house where they said six people had been killed. After moving in, they claimed to experience paranormal activity so intense that they began to document their encounters, which were later turned into a controversial book entitled "The Amityville Horror: A True Story."
Though the events surrounding the haunting were later found to be exaggerated, the book became an instant hit and was turned into a movie known simply as "The Amityville Horror." Since then, the movie has spawned several spin-offs, but the original remains the most popular and is still shown during the Halloween season.
Now, fans of the movie have the opportunity to own a piece of the history and see for themselves whether or not the legends are true. Owners Odalys and Jose Fragoso, who bought the house 11 years ago, have lowered the price in the hope of selling the property quicker.
"My husband and I are getting a divorce," Odalys told CNN. "It's not that the house is haunted or anything. We had wonderful times in that house." The original list price of $1.45 million has been lowered to $955,000.
Of course, fans have always been drawn to the site where the murders occurred, much to the chagrin of the homeowners.
"They were thrilled that they filmed the move there," Odalys added. "I never felt anything, nothing whatsoever. I was just happy that we were buying the house because we saw the potential of it. It's not haunted, not at all."
The home, of course, is located along the river on Long Island, New York.
