'Amplitude' Release Update: Tunnel Mode and Other Improvements Teased
In about a couple of weeks, Harmonix will be releasing its remastered version of "Amplitude." To keep fans excited about the game, the developer has teased a new mode, along with other improvements, to the new title.
The game's audio lead, Pete Maguire, posted the announcement at Sony's PlayStation Blog on Monday, Dec. 21.
The new mode is called FreQ Mode, which is inspired by and pays homage to "FreQuency," "Amplitude's" predecessor and Harmonix's first major release. FreQ Mode skips flat tracks and instead allows players to turn on tunnel gameplay, where tracks continuously wrap around the tunnel, making the game more challenging. The addition of the new mode is an acknowledgment of how certain players prefer "FreQuency's" tunnel design over the original "Amplitude's" flat tracks.
In addition to a new mode, Maguire said there will also be matches available through Team Play. These matches include 1 vs. 2, 1 vs. 3, and 2 vs. 2. The game also offers cooperative play, as well as solo play.
Maguire also enumerated several other improvements made to the game. In this latest version of "Amplitude," players will be able to streak more easily with new controls and better messaging. Streaking is considered to be the best way to score points in the game. Gaining powerups will be easier, and the game will also feature new in-house custom soundtrack and audio reactive environments.
"Amplitude's" story line revolves around the nanotechnologist Mari, whose attempt to induce herself to synesthesia fails and results in the shutting down of her brain. It is the player's main objective to bring her back to life by entering her brain and destroying the scarification that protects it.
"Amplitude" is a reboot of the game that released more than a decade ago. The new game arrives on Jan. 5, 2016. It will be available for Sony's PlayStation 4 for $19.99.
