The Android 4.4, KitKat release date might have recently been hinted at by Google.

The company posted up an image on its KitKat Google+ and Facebook pages that showed the Bugdroid dancing. They also wrote the following comment with it which read "Everybody dance now! #AndroidKITKAT."

Android Community attempted to decipher the meaning behind the post and came up with something interesting regarding the software's release date. The company made a reference to a song released on Oct. 18 1990. The record is 4 minutes and 4 seconds long which matches up to the 4.4 in the KitKat name.

The publication also concluded that Oct. 18 might be the actual date for its release considering all the consistencies within the post. Google has been known for dropping Easter Eggs such as this one in the past.

Other rumors point to Android 4.4, KitKat featuring a default SMS app.

Google advised SMS app developers to prepare their apps for the arrival of the software so users will be able to switch to the company's own "default SMS app."

The company did not reveal any information on the release date for Android 4.4. Google also did not mention if Hangouts will get SMS and MMS support in the new update.

The call to preparation for app developers was made to get them ready for Android 4.4 so that their messaging systems will work properly. Only one app will become the default SMS app on the software which means that this one app will be able to both send and receive SMS messages.
