Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie Update Spotted Running on Nexus 7 and Nexus 4

The upcoming Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie update was spotted running on the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 4 this week.

The operating system running on the two devices started with the letter K hinting at the next major build of the software being test on them. These "K" builds labeled KRS36B were spotted at the Chromium Project in a fresh bug report. If these were real, than there is a good chance they represent the upcoming Key Lime Pie revamp.

All JellyBean builds began with the letter J while Ice Cream Sandwich builds began with the letter I. This is a good indication that K represents Key Lime Pie.

Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie could launch as early as this fall, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal. The publication touched on something called "K Release" that would launch around that time.

The publication did not specifically claim that "K Release" was actually Key Lime Pie, but it did indicate that it will be a major software update and the 'K' hints at the long rumored name for the build. The Wall Street Journal also reported that "K Release" will take place in the fall as Google will be "wrapping up development on the next version of Android" at that time.

If this report ends up being accurate, it will fall in line with some of the previous ones which stated that the company was holding off on the next major Android update in order to allow more devices to receive Android 4.3, JellyBean.

The report also claims that the next major Android build will be a lot friendlier to low-cost devices than its predecessors. Google will be able to put most Android users on the same page if this is accurate information.
