Android 6.0 Marshmallow Now Available for Nexus Devices
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is officially available for Nexus devices other than the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.
Google has begun rolling out Android 6.0 Marshmallow as an update for older Nexus devices. The latest Android mobile operating system comes preinstalled in Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, according to IBN Live.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is packed with a lot of new features including improved battery efficiency and Now on Tap that displays relevant information to help users tick off more tasks from their to-do list. Another new feature is the Doze that helps the device save battery by switching to hibernate mode when it detects that the phone is idle, the report details.
After testing the Doze feature with the Nexus 5S and Nexus 6S, Google found out that the devices had 30 percent longer battery time compared to the time when they were not running Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The sixth Android mobile OS version also has included the new feature called App Standby that detects apps that are seldom used and puts them in a reduced activity state. This is another way that Android 6.0 Marshmallow helps improve battery efficiency, Tech Times reports.
In addition, Android 6.0 Marshmallow includes improved security settings wherein users can customize app permissions. The app menu also had a major change, as it has become more organized now. With all apps seen in a single page, users only need to scroll down instead of flicking to the next page to see all the apps.
Another interesting feature included in the Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the fingerprint scanning support, the report adds.
The first older Nexus devices to get the over-the-air Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will be Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9, and the Nexus Player. This means users no longer need to connect the device to a computer, but they only need to wait for a notification of the update which that also comes with the option to install the new OS. The rest of the Android devices, including Samung and Motorola, will get the software update gradually.
