Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update For Sony Xperia: Z5, Z5 Compact Rumored To Get First
As the latest Android OS has reached a lot of Nexus devices, reports are already circulating as to which non-Nexus devices will be lucky enough to receive the update soon. According to a report in Gospel Herald, some Sony Xperia phones are among those devices that are expected to get the update first.
In October, Sony had released a concept build of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow and made it available to those who signed up for the beta testing in selected European countries. This release however is very limited because it only covered beta testers in selected European countries, and thus cannot be considered an official roll out of the update yet. The build is reported to be receiving its OTA update currently.
Another report in Neurogadget said that Sony's newer devices such as the Z5, Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium devices are rumored to be first in line to get the OS update, with a target start of roll out by November or December 2015. Since the OTA update is largely dependent on the carrier, the final roll out schedule may be different between Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint.
The report also indicated that Sony is still working on the full release of the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop over-the-air update to its Z3 series, namely the Z3, the Z3 Compact and the Z3 Tablet. As for the other Xperia devices such as the C5 Ultra, Z4 Table, Z3+, C4 and M5, the report claimed that these devices may no longer get the Lollipop update but may go straight to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
While some reports say that the newer Z5 series will be benefiting from the update first, other reports are wondering why the older Z3 series phones were the first to receive a concept build and now are about to get an update for said build.
