Android 7.0 Nougat for Moto G4, G4 Plus News: Update Making Its Way to U.S. Moto Phones

The Android 7.0 Nougat update is finally dropping in to the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus phones in the United States. New delivery batches of Android Nougat have been updating G4 devices to the latest version of the Android operating system.

Already several months late, but still better than never. The newest update of Google's mobile operating system (OS) has been making its rounds on the remaining un-updated G4 and G4 plus handhelds in the United States, according to Neowin.

Neowin's feature also mentioned the ongoing "soak test" as reported by Republic Wireless. "Soak Testing" is a method for determining the performance of a new system, with particular focus on its stability and performance. These kinds of tests are done over a period of time, typically extending to a few weeks or months especially for new operating system releases.

If the testing is successful and no serious issues are found, hopefully these rounds of Android Nougat updates will continue and even build up in frequency. Neowin notes that although the update notches up the build number to NPJ 25.93 - 13, the update has a limited coverage of the current Android security patches. The Nougat upgrades going out to the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus phones only include security updates no newer than December last year.

The current Android security update patches include updates as recent as February. The Motorola help site lists the complete details on the Android Nougat updates being rolled out.

All is not well, unfortunately, in Nougat land according to a report by Gizbot. There have been some anecdotal incidents of the newest Android OSS rendering G4 and G4 Plus devices unstable. Some of the issues reported while running the new Android 7.0 Nougat update on Moto G4s include a whole gamut of problems. Longer app loading times, crashing Facebook, Snapchat and Messenger apps are some of the unverified reports. Some users have also noticed a shorter battery life with the new update.
