Android 7 Nougat Update for Samsung Galaxy Note 5, S6 Edge+ Download News: Sprint First to Rollout; Update Size at 1.4 GB
Earlier this year, Samsung announced that updates to the new Android 7 Nougat will be coming, following a schedule that started on Jan. 17. On Wednesday, April 5, Sprint pushed out the newest Android to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Samsung S6 Edge+, becoming the first carrier to do so. The new update weighs 1.4 GB and includes security fixes, all the way to the March patch.
The 2015 batch of Samsung flagship phones are now currently getting their Nougat updates on Sprint, and has been doing so for the past few days, according to Droid Life, as the Android 7 Nougat packages are now being pushed out to Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Samsung S6 Edge+ devices. Sprint leads the U.S. carriers in rolling out the new update to Note 5 devices, according to recent reports.
With this new development, Samsung has made good on its promise last January to deliver the latest Android version to its older lines of Note 5 and S6 phones. The millions of owners of this generation of Samsung flagship phones will be receiving over-the-air (OTA) update notifications, with the option to install overnight. Owners better prepare their devices for this update, which is relatively huge at 1.4 GB for both the Note 5 and the S6 Edge+. Leaving the unit plugged in and connected to Wi-Fi over the duration of the overnight update is highly recommended.

Aside from the expected Android 7 Nougat update, the new software being rolled out comes surprisingly complete with a few other updates as well. The new Android upgrade being rolled out also comes with the March 2017 Android security patches, according to Android Authority. Aside from that, the software will also come with the latest version of the TouchWiz User Interface skin by Samsung.
For other variants of the Samsung S6 or for other carriers, no official word has been released on when they are getting their own Android 7 Nougat update. As usual, owners can go to the Settings menu of their device to check for updates, which could be sent to their phone any day now.
