Android Lollipop News: New OS to be Released on Nov. 2014, New Features Revealed

Google has recently announced that Android's newest operating system, known as the Android 5.0 or Lollipop, will be released on the first week of November. Fans of Android devices are expecting a lot from the new OS, especially since it will reportedly contain new features that will help save battery life, and some of Android Lollipop's aspects will apparently be very similar to Apple's iOS8.

Some similarities to Apple's latest operating system include a change in appearance, which will appear to look flatter. Lollipop's new "Priority" mode is said to be very much like iPhone's "Do not Disturb" mode, so that it will only show text messages and calls from selected contacts. Moreover, Android's newest OS will include the ability to monitor individual app's battery consumption, just like in iOS8.

Android Lollipop will reportedly feature an upgrade in its design, which will include colors, shadows, and animations. But perhaps one of its most innovative features is the guest user mode, wherein it limits access to apps and payments, making it a useful feature for parents with kids who regularly borrow their phones or tablets to play games or make calls. Also, individual apps can be marked as private and can be hidden from the screen.

According to Huffington Post, those who will buy HTC's new Nexus 6 phone or Nexus 9 tablet will get to use the Android Lollipop right away, since the gadgets come pre-installed with the operating system. And though Samsung has not made an official announcement, the company has hinted on Twitter that the newest Galaxy Note 4 will get the update.

As for the exact release date, there are rumors that the Android Lollipop will be released on Nov. 3, though this has not been confirmed by Google as of the moment.
