Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Samsung Galaxy S5, Note 4, LG G3, Xperia Z3, Z2, HTC One M8, Moto X – Which Phones Get the Update and When?
After Google unveiled the latest version of the Android mobile operating system Lollipop in June 2014, smartphone and tablet users on Android have been asking if and when they will get an update on their phones.
The earliest to get the updates were the Nexus devices with HTC and Motorola sometime November 2014. Google is leaving it to the phone manufacturers to schedule their releases for their own devices and several reports have come out to try and consolidate information about Lollipop updates.
One such report is found in Digital Trends, and it tries to round up updated news, tidbits and rumors about Lollipop releases on the major smartphone brands.

It starts the round up with information about Samsung phones. According to the report, Galaxy S5 owners in the US started getting the updates starting early February, for those who are on the Verizon network, which should be completed by the end of February. T-Mobile S5 owners got theirs in mid-February. For S5 owners in Europe, they will be receiving their updates soon, the schedule being dependent on how fast the networks approve the new firmware. For Samsung phablet users of the Note 4 and Note Edge in Europe, it has started to arrive in Poland and may spread out to other parts of Europe soon. Recently, some Note users in Australia have been able to update over the air, indicating that it may be happening soon in that part of the world.
As for LG phones, G3 phones in Europe were the first to get updates, which was done before the end of 2014. For G3 owners in the US, Feb. 10 was the start date for the roll out within the AT&T network. Another carrier, Sprint, announced that they too will deliver the update, although a start date was not mentioned. LG G Pro 2 users in Europe got updated to Lollipop sometime in February also, after its launch in South Korea in early February. G3 owners in India were said to receive theirs before the end of February.
Sony came out with an announcement in December 2014 that it will "start a wider Android 5.0 update soon." First to be updated are the Experia Z3 and Z2, which is targeted to be delivered sometime early 2015.
First and second generation Moto X and the Moto G phones of Motorola are set to get their updates, along with the 4G LTE version of the Moto G and the Moto E, according to Motorola's official blog. Older phones are supposedly lined up for updates as well. In November 2014, second generation Moto X and Moto G phones in the US and internationally received their updates. First generation Moto G owners in India got theirs in December 2014. Schedules for updates on other phones will be announced at a later date.
As for HTC, the report noted that the company missed the deadline it set for itself to update for the HTC One and HTC One M8. Without stating a firm date, the company says that the updates will start "coming soon." For some One M8 owners in Europe, it has arrived. Some owners of unlocked and Google Play editions of the One M7 have been reported to be the most recent ones getting updates. On Feb. 10, T-Mobile introduced the update to HTC One M8 over the air. When asked when the updates will arrive for the rest of HTC smartphones, the only official reply given is "in the next couple of months."
Asus on the other hand announced that updates are in the works for Zenfone 4, 5 and 6 smartphones and the LTE version of Zenfone 5, which will be released in April 2015, together with the update for the PadFone S. June 2015 is the release date for the update on the Padfone Infinity tablet.
