Android Marshmallow Update Hits Xperia Z2, Z3, Z3 Compact
There is a good news for Sony Xperia smartphone users. It has been announced already that the new operating system Android Marshmallow is heading to three models in the Xperia line. As noted in the Xperia Blog, the tech giant has started the rollout of the update for the Xperia Z2 and Z3 series. It said that "it is currently live for the Xperia Z2 (D6503 only), Xperia Z3 (D6603 ony) and Xperia Z3 Compact (D5803 only)."
International Business Times also detailed that the final version of the update has been rolled out after the release of the beta version of the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update back in October 2015. With a new firmware number of 23.5.0.570, the update features the Camera 2.0.0 user interface. It also comes with the February Android security patch, as well, as noted in NDTV Gadgets.
The firmware download links for users have been provided already for them to be able to manually download and install. As of the moment, the rollout is available only in the U.S., Middle East, North Africa, Russia, Ukraine and Latin America.

Other new features from the new Android OS include the overhauled app permissions, the new Chrome feature that can change the Web experience for Android users and the fresh ways to deal with Web links. There's also the addition of the Google Now on Tap feature. And for those who wish to make convenient money transactions, the Android Pay mobile payment system is now present in the Android Marshmallow.
Users can also expect to find a new fingerprint APIs for the developers to bring in more into their apps. There is also a new RAM manager and adoptable storage devices along with auto backup, new app drawer and restore for apps.
As for other Xperia models, users will have to wait until the firmware is ready for their specific variant. There is still no information on when it might be but Sony will be announcing it soon.
