Real Madrid Transfer News: Angel Di Maria Slams Spanish Club in Farewell Letter
Angel Di Maria is now officially a Manchester United player as announced by the Old Trafford via their Twitter and Facebook page. The Argentinian midfielder was bought off from Real Madrid for a fee of £59.7 million.
Di Maria has, however, expressed in a farewell letter of his desire not to leave Real Madrid. The letter was published by Spanish sports newspaper Marca moments after the announcement of the completed transfer.
101 Goals translated the letter and it revealed Di Maria's preferrence to stay with the Bernabeu club.
"Unfortunately today I have to go, but I want to make clear that this was never my desire. As anyone who works, I've always wanted to progress," the letter says.
Di Maria then criticizes the directors of Real Madrid including president Florentino Perez for the way they handled his contract over the summer.
"After winning 'La Decima' I went to the World Cup with the hope of receiving a new contract, which never came. Many things and many lies were spoken," Di Maria writes.
The Manchester United signee then hinted about how the Premier League will better suit his future and his dreams.
"There are many things that I value and many of them have nothing to do with my salary. I hope to find it at Manchester United," he said.
Manchester United fans may not be happy with Di Maria's desire to remain with Madrid but manager Louis Van Gaal for one is happy about Di Maria's signing with the Old Trafford club.
"Angel is a world-class midfielder but most importantly he is a team player. There is no doubting his immense natural talent," says Van Gaal on the club's website. "He is an excellent addition to the team."
