Angelina Jolie Practiced and Polished Maleficent's Villain Voice While Giving Her Kids a Bath

Angelina Jolie practiced on her kids when she landed the title role for the 2014 Disney movie "Maleficent." She polished her character's voice while giving her children a bath.

Jolie told a panel at the Toronto Film Festival that she knew she should be ready to play Maleficent well and thus trained under a voice coach.

"I thought, 'I'm not really sure I could do what needs to be done for her,'" Jolie said. "[The coach] had me play around with throwing my voice as big as it could go."

Jolie added that she found Maleficent's accent and voice while bathing her children.

"They would say, 'What are you doing? Mom, stop talking so weird.' One day I just got really nutty and did [the voice] and they fell over laughing," the actress revealed.

Following "Maleficent," Jolie shifted to doing movies behind the scenes as a director. But she will go back to facing the camera again in the Disney sequel.

It will be her first project as an actress returning to her roots. Jolie picked up "Maleficent 2" over her rumored role in the remake of "Bride of Frankenstein" with Universal.

Jolie revealed that the script to "Maleficent 2" is currently being worked out and she has high hopes that it will be a strong sequel.

Jez Butterworth ("Edge of Tomorrow") and Linda Woolverton ("Beauty and the Beast") were originally attached to the project when Disney announced the sequel in 2016. It's not clear, however, if they remain part of "Maleficent 2" now that nearly a year of development passed.

The studio will also have to hire a director for "Maleficent 2." The original movie had "Game of Thrones" director Robert Stromberg at the helm.

Elle Fanning's return as Princess Aurora is also not yet determined given that the script is not yet ready and there's still no confirmed production schedule as of press time.

Jolie is excited about going back to acting and reprising her role as the misunderstood Disney villain. She told the panel that she's doing the movie for her kids.
