'Animal Planet' Crew Discovers Stranded Man in Deserted Island: 'He Was Prepared to Die'
Last week, the dramatic rescue of a man in a deserted Australian island was aired on Animal Planet's "River Monsters" and has gained the praise of many viewers.
Multiple outlets have picked up the story as the said episode was filmed in November and many people are wondering what happened to the man who was rescued by the fishing-focused TV crew.
According to Breitbart News, director Stephen Shearman's team was looking around the Sir Edward Pellew Group of Islands for dangerous sea creatures that will be featured in the show's upcoming episodes and much to their surprise, they found a human preparing for his last breath.
People further reports that the stranded man, whose name the crew later discovered is Tremine, was actually a roofer from Borroloola, Australia and is one experienced fisher who just decided one fine day to leave his boat for a while so he can search for better oysters.
As the hours passed, Tremine realized that he couldn't walk back as the scorching sun took a toll on him and he was suffering from sunstroke. It is unclear how he survived but it is believed that he was stranded for over 60 hours without enough water to hydrate himself.
In an interview with Inside Edition, Shearman said Tremine was already preparing to see the end of the tunnel until help came. "He had said his last prayer. He was prepared to die and meet his maker," Shearman said.
The director further explained that while the crew wasn't planning to film on that side of the island, they had to move since the waters on the other side made it difficult for filming to be a success.
"Together, we spotted this blue Esky, or cooler box, that was just sat on the rock...this guy with no clothes was running out of the cave, waving his arms out," Shearman recalled.
The team then helped Tremine into one of the boats and immediately gave him water and pills. He was then taken to the team's lodge and the next day, he was strong enough to head back home.
Shearman and production have been in touch with Tremine for the past months after the rescue and they can confirm that "apart from a bruised pride, he was back to normal."
