Apple Has Stopped Selling the 256 GB Model of the iPhone 7 to Help Boost iPhone 8 Sales
Apple released the latest in the lineup in the form of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. However, recent reports have revealed that these flagships might not be doing good in sales as Apple seems to have stopped offering the 256 GB variant of the iPhone 7.
The tech giant has always been known to be one of the best smartphone makers in the market. They offer innovative designs and a different ecosystem that stood out in the face of the customizable and flexible Android.
According to Mashable, an Apple's customer service representative confirmed that the 256 GB model of the iPhone 7 can no longer be purchased directly from the company. The tech giant has yet to respond to comment, but it seems that sales of the variant stopped as soon as the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus was unveiled during the keynote event held last Sept. 12.
This move reflects Apple's prediction that the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus might not do so well, especially since they were unveiled at the same time as the better equipped iPhone X was revealed.
Critics believe that this move may have been made to help redirect consumers to the iPhone 8. It is now the only smartphone from Apple that offers a 256GB model. Further reports have revealed that Verizon is still selling the 256GB iPhone 7 for $100 cheaper than the iPhone 8 of the same caliber.
Considering that the iPhone 8 supports wireless charging and the A11 bionic chip processor, consumers might lean more towards this flagship than spending relatively the same amount on an iPhone 7 that offers less.
Currently, Apple is also facing problems with their recently released iOS 11, as it has been notorious in draining the battery life of the devices, as well as riddled with bugs. The release of the iPhone X is also on the horizon, and given the current performance of the iPhone 8 in the market, some critics predict that iPhone X might not fare better, especially if the tech giant fails to meet the supply needs of the consumers.
The iPhone X is scheduled for release on Nov. 3.
