Apple has dominated the tablet landscape, but with other companies set to release tablets of their own, the competition could get very fierce as they all compete for a stake in the market.
Since the first iPad was released, it has had the top spot in terms of sales. With 90 percent of the tablet market in 2010, Apple established itself as the frontrunner, miles ahead of its nearest competitor.
However, Apple’s sale of the iPad began to slow in 2011 due to other rival tablets entering the market. They were only able to control slightly less than 70 percent of the market when the Android tablet debuted.

Companies around the industry including PC manufactures, smartphone developers, and even online retailers are all elbowing for room around the tablet market.
Apple is by far the most expensive tablet on the market with a starting price of $499. Diehard followers are in love with its wonderful display and deep application portfolio, but it remains to be seen what will happen when comparable slates make their way to store shelves.
The one tablet that surely draws some consumers in is Nokia’s Windows tablet. Nokia’s director general in France, Paul Amsellem, told Les Echos that Nokia would release its own tablet next year. The tablet is rumored to run on Microsoft’s Windows 8 platform, which has not been released yet. Windows 8 is the first platform designed to work on smartphones, tablets, and PCs.
The Kindle Fire will drive its sales with its wide variety of movies and other content through Amazon Prime. Moreover, with a price tag of $199, it definitely will draw attention away from the iPad. With the potential for upgrading the Kindle in the upcoming years, it will make the tablet highly competitive.
With the Samsung Galaxy Tab’s satisfying hardware, it will make hardcore tech fans really think twice about which one they prefer.
According to PC World, the tablet is expected to be released next year and will have an 11.6-inch screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It will include an Intel second-generation Core i5 chip and 4 GB of RAM. It is also expected that it would run on Windows 8.
For now, Apple's iPad will claim the top spot but the others are climbing and gaining ground fast.
