Apple iPhone Upgrade Program Review, Details: Trade-Ins Made Easier, iPhone 8 and iPhone X Pricing Detailed
It looks like Apple is making some changes in its two-year-old iPhone Upgrade Program in honor of the launch of the new iPhone 8 duo and the anniversary special, iPhone X.
The Cupertino giant no longer requires users to set up an appointment in an Apple store to trade in their devices. Apple is apparently allowing customers to send in their handsets instead, as spotted by a Macrumors forum member.
The updated guidelines as shared by The Verge read:
You can either have a Trade-in Kit sent to you and return it by mail or trade in your current iPhone when you pick up your new iPhone at an Apple Store," says a document detailing the offer that was leaked online. The document says Apple will only accept iPhone trade-ins that are "in good working condition.
For the uninitiated, the iPhone Upgrade Program gives users the chance to upgrade to a new iPhone every year, provided they purchased their iPhone from any of Apple's physical stores, the official website or the app with a plan to pay it off monthly in the span of two years.
Users who managed to clear the first 12 months of payment will be able to avail of a free upgrade, which then restarts the 24-month installment plan.
The iPhone Upgrade Program includes AppleCare+ that extends the warranty and phone support to two years and accidental-damage replacement for only $99. It also allows customers to get a cracked screen replaced for only $29.
Under the iPhone Upgrade Program, those who are looking to trade in their current iPhone (provided it is still in "good physical and operational condition") for the 64 GB iPhone 8 will have to pay $34.50 per month.
The iPhone 8 Plus with the same storage capacity will be pricier at $39.50 per month while the 64 GB iPhone X will cost users $49.91 every month. Those interested in signing up for the iPhone Upgrade Program can read all the details here.
