Apple to Release New Thinner MacBook April 10
Apple announced a re-designed MacBook at their "Spring Forward" affair Monday where they also launched the Apple Watch and revealed a price drop for the Apple TV.
Apple's "Spring Forward" event Monday saw the launching of their new and re-designed MacBook, said to be the lightest Mac the company has unveiled to date. The new MacBook will be made available to the public by April 10.
Weighing in at two pounds (0.907185 kilograms), the new MacBook is also the thinnest version Apple has produced at 13.1mm, a difference of 24 percent compared to its 11-inch MacBook Air predecessor. The reveal coincided with the launch of the touted Apple Watch, and new details on the price drop for the company's three-year-old Apple TV.
Powered by an Intel Core M Processor, the MacBook features contoured batteries to fit the laptop's metal casing, providing up to nine hours of battery life with moderate web surfing use. It is Apple's first fanless laptop, ensuring a 67 percent smaller logic board. It also presents the much anticipated 12-inch Retina display that was speculated on early this year.
The MacBook's full metal enclosure contains integrated antennas, a precise keyboard, and an improved backlight system installed with individual LEDs highlighting each key. The pressure sensitive trackpad is adjustable to accommodate a softer feel, and utilizes a versatile USB-C connector that is an all-in-one HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA and power port. According to Apple, the all-in-one connector will become their across-the-board standard which users should expect in all their other upcoming devices.
The new MacBook is available in gold, space gray, and silver variations, and will be ready for ship out on April 10 at a starting price of $1,299.
It will be joining Apple's other upgraded products – the original MacBook Air featuring a faster Thunderbolt and updated processor, and the MacBook Pro with the upgraded pressure-sensitive touchpad and faster processor, both of which started shipping out a day after the "Spring Forward" event.
