Apple Watch 2 Release Date: Retailer Price Slash On Apple Watch Evidence Of Imminent Launch?
Rumors on Apple Watch 2's release date have been sparked anew, thanks to a retailer discounting the first-generation timepieces. Is this proof that the Apple Watch 2 will release sooner rather than later?
On Thursday, Feb. 4, Twitter user Ashley Norris tweeted about significant discounts currently being offered by British retailer Currys PC World.
"Interesting. Curry's PC World seriously discounting the #AppleWatch - £50-120 off," tweeted Norris. "Clearing a backlog before the 2nd gen arrives?"
The Apple Watch with sports band in various colors is currently discounted at £50 off, except the stainless steel variant that is on sale for £100 less. Meanwhile, the Apple Watch with Milanese Loop can be bought for £120 less.
The discounts came just months after the said retailer has acquired retail rights to the Apple device, according to Trusted Reviews. Although the publication notes this could be a standard sale, some have taken the big discounts as evidence that the original Apple Watch will soon be replaced by its heavily rumored successor, the Apple Watch 2. Still, the sale itself is not definitive of Apple Watch 2's release date.
Right now, there are conflicting reports as to when the market can possibly expect this new Apple Watch. On one side, there are those saying the watch will be unveiled in March, along with the iPhone 6c or iPhone 5se and other new Apple devices. On the other hand, others speculate that the Apple Watch 2 will skip the March event and launch in autumn. If an Apple Watch does appear in March, it could just be a smaller update.
The Apple Watch 2 will reportedly have a faster processor and FaceTime camera, but these features are still rumors as of this point.
As is typical, Apple has remained silent on its new products like the Apple Watch 2. Take the rumors with a grain of salt.
