Apple's 'Error 53' Completely Shuts Down iPhone Repaired by Third Party

Apple's "Error 53" could leave an iPhone completely useless once the device detects done by a third party, based on recent reports.

Various iPhone users have been complaining about an "Error 53" that completely shuts down a device with no way of solving the problem. This error surfaces when an Apple smartphone detects a repair done by a third party or if unofficial parts are detected in the phone, according to the Independent.

Once "Error 53" appears, the user has no choice but to ditch the iPhone and buy a new device. The error is common among iPhones with repaired home button or Touch ID fingerprint sensor, the report explains.

The issue appears to have started after Apple released the iOS 9 update, but devices that were repaired previously could also be affected since the error works retroactively. Therefore, the error can crop up after installing the said update, the report details.

Meanwhile, Apple has released a statement regarding the complaints about the "Error 53" on iPhones. The tech giant said it is part of their effort to preserve user security, The Guardian reports.

"We take customer security very seriously and Error 53 is the result of security checks designed to protect our customers," an Apple spokesperson said. "iOS checks that the Touch ID sensor in your iPhone or iPad correctly matches your device's other components."

The Apple representative explained that once iOS finds a mismatch among the phone parts, the system check fails and it automatically disables the Touch ID and Apple Pay use. This way, they will be able to protect the iPhone and prevent the user from using a fake Touch ID sensor. Users who encounter the error are encouraged to get in touch with Apple Support, the report relays.

For users who encounter "Error 53" even if their iPhone has not been repaired, they can get a replacement from the Apple store. However, those who had third party installed on their smartphones will cancel that privilege.
