A slight cause of concern was the "wetness" or dampness that has been observed on her back end, explained by April's attendants as "likely due to tail swishing of discharge." The Express gave hourly updates from the zookeepers, who are watching closely while April was outside "looking increasingly restless with lots of tail swishing."

Zookeepers are understandably concerned about the wetness. As reported by the Express, Zookeepers have noted that "giraffes in the wild are skilled at hiding active labour with the first sign either the water breaking or a hoof appearing."

The early signs of labor have to be detected as soon as possible, so that preparations can be made as quickly as possible — the team that will supervise the birth will need to secure April the giraffe before she goes into active labor. Equipment needed to attend to the calf is also very much needed, since even a newborn giraffe calf is expected to weigh about 150 pounds.

Stay tuned for more updates on April the giraffe, who will be giving birth very soon.
