'Archer' Season 8 Set in 1940s Los Angeles

FX's animated adult spy series "Archer" recently released its first trailer for season 8, and it features a redesign and reimagining of its characters at a whole new level.

The eighth season titled "Archer: Dreamland," will pick up from the cliffhanger ending of season 7 where Archer was left dying in a pool.

From there, it seems the character will indeed go to Dreamland as the show is transported back to 1940s crime-riddled Los Angeles, where Archer becomes a detective who is hunting the murderer of his former partner, Woodhouse. Lara is also present and takes on the role of a nightclub performer

Show producers Adam Reed and Matt Thompson also teased that Archer will meet the alter-egos of several existing characters in the show that are most loved by fans.

It is also widely speculated that this significant change in setting happens as a dream while Archer is in a coma, considering the "Dreamland" title and the fact that Archer was already on the brink of death during the finale of season 7.

In addition, Reed decided to extend the show up until season 10, despite initial thoughts of ending it after season 8. "I was going to end it after [Season] 8, but then I had sort of a brain explosion of a way that I could do three more seasons and really keep my interest up," he said during an interview with TVLine.

Reed also added that the three upcoming seasons are going to be very different from the previous seasons of "Archer" and from each other.

These story differences will indeed start with the upcoming season, which seems like a total deviation from the main premise of the show that originally followed Archer as a dangerous top-secret agent.

Season 8 of "Archer" premieres on April 5 on FX's sister channel FXX at 10 p.m. EDT.
