'Archer' Season 8 Premiere Date: 1940s Noir 'Dreamland' to Debut in April
With only a little over a month left until the premiere of "Archer" season 8, fans are getting ready to say hello to a revamped version of the animated comedy. In February, FXX released the official trailer of the new season, which features a lot of the same brand of humor that the show has become known for.
The clip, which is over a minute long, boasts of lots of action and comedy. This time, however, the show is set in the 1940s and is heavily influenced by noir. The trailer features gangsters, classic entertainment, old-fashioned investigative work and even Lana (Aisha Tyler) telling jokes in front of an audience.
The upcoming season, subtitled "Dreamland," will see the return of all the characters, but they will have slightly different backgrounds. This is evident in the trailer where Pam (Amber Nash) is seen more involved with the criminal investigations than usual. Instead of being a secret agent working for Malory (Jessica Walter), Sterling Archer (H. Jon Benjamin) will be a private investigator this time around. After the death of his old partner, Woodhouse (Tom Kane), Sterling goes on a hunt to find his killer.
Lana will be a lounge singer in the 1940s version of "Archer," and she will meet Sterling again for the first time. Cheryl (Judy Greer) also makes an appearance in the trailer, and she is still as crazy and unpredictable as her usual self.
For the past seven seasons, "Archer" has aired on FX. However, for season 8 and all subsequent cycles, the animated series will be showing on FXX. "'Archer' is an awesome addition to the growing slate of original comedies on FXX, where it will join 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,' 'Man Seeking Woman,' and 'You're the Worst,'" said FX Networks boss Chuck Saftler (via Variety).
"Archer" has already been renewed through season 10, and executive producer Adam Reed plans to end it there.
"Archer: Dreamland" will premiere on Wednesday, April 5, at 10 p.m. EDT on FXX.
