'Archos 50 Cesium' news: First Windows 10 smartphone launches in November
The first mobile handset from Archos to run on Windows 10, Archos 50 Cesium, has been announced for a November release.
According to Tech Times, the device has been paired with an Android counterpart that the company calls Archos 50e Helium.
The two handsets have different operating systems but they share several identical features including a 5-inch IPS LCD display with HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The devices also sport a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor with 1 gigahertz, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage that has an option to be expanded for up to 32 GB of microSD support, a rear camera with 8 megapixels, LED and autofocus, and a 2-megapixel front camera. Coming with dual-SIM support, the phones have a 2,100 mAh battery and 46 LTE connectivity for improved speeds.
Archos has not indicated the handset's weight but it provided details about the dimensions being 147 x 72.5 x 8.5 millimeters (5.8 x 2.9 x 0.33 inches).
Other features that users will come to love include Adreno 304 GPU, audio and video playback for enhanced music experience, loudspeaker, microphone, G-sensor, and a 3.5-millimeter (0.14 inches) audio jack.
CEO Loic Poirier said, "By providing a choice between two almost identical hardware models, we allow the customer to focus on what they like on the inside: the user interface. Android and Windows are both fantastic and provide varied software experiences."
Initially set to be available in the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, and France by November, the Archos 50 Cesium and its counterpart comes with the retail price of $150, which is about £99 in the United Kingdom and $215 in Australia.
It is noteworthy that Archos has previously released a budget-friendly smartphone in 2014, the Archos 40 Cesium, another Windows-powered phone that launched at only $102. The device was celebrated by many users and had increased figures for Archos, experts commenting that the numbers are probably because of the phone's affordability.
