Arizona Cardinals NFL Trade, Roster Rumors: David Johnson Has Dislocated Wrist, Could Miss Game for Extended Period of Time

The Arizona Cardinals kicked off their 2017 season with a loss against the Detroit Lions, but they will get the chance to bounce back against the undermanned Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Sept. 17, at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Unfortunately, 2016 first-team All-Pro running back David Johnson won't be joining the team on the field for that game because he's going to miss a significant amount of games due to a wrist injury.

The Cardinals have revealed that Johnson suffered a dislocated wrist in the third quarter of last Sunday's game against the Lions.

And while it's not clear how long he will be out, Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians has noted that Johnson's injury is similar to that of fellow running back T.J. Logan. The rookie had surgery on his wrist and he's expected to be sidelined for eight to 12 weeks. The team is obviously worried Johnson may miss the same amount of time if the wrist requires surgery. Right now, the running back is seeking a second opinion.

ESPN's Adam Schefter has reported that Johnson has already met with wrist specialists and surgery is definitely a possibility. He added that they may make a decision in the next 24–48 hours.

Losing Johnson is a huge blow for the Cardinals, but Arians is confident his other running backs are ready to step up and pick up the slack.

"Once we know for sure, I have all the confidence (in other backs. Andre was good, Kerwynn (Williams) looked good, our young guys, we will see what we've got. And we'll see what's out there," Arians said, via the Cardinals' official website.

"It's always a huge blow to lose a top player. But it's not the end of the world. It's an opportunity for someone to step up. David Johnson became David Johnson because of somebody's injury," he added.
